Being neurodiversity-affirming means we do not view Autism, ADHD, or AuDHD as deficits or disorders that need to be "fixed" or cured. Instead, we recognize them as natural, valid variations in human neurology.
We understand that the profound struggles neurodivergent individuals face rarely stem from their brains themselves, but rather from navigating a society that wrongly prioritizes neurotypical standards, communication styles, and expectations over neurodivergent ones.
In application, this framework guides how we approach your care:
No Forced Compliance: We will never force you to suppress your natural traits, stifle your stimming, or conform to neurotypical behavioral benchmarks just to feel accepted and respected in the therapy space.
Autonomy Over Your Armor: We recognize that masking (suppressing your natural traits to fit in) can be a vital, protective armor developed to navigate unsafe environments, and it can be deeply invalidating if forced or expected as a condition of connection. We will never shame you for masking. We will never demand you mask. Instead, we work on building the awareness and skills that allow you to consciously choose when pulling on that armor serves your immediate needs, while actively cultivating spaces, relationships, and internal safety where you can fully and safely lay it down.
Accommodation Over Pathology: Our goal is to shift the focus from "what is wrong with you" to "what does your unique nervous system need to thrive." Together, we design practical, customized lifestyle scaffolding that honors your executive functioning style and sensory needs.

Trauma and chronic stress are not just memories stored in the past; they are physically stamped onto a person’s nervous system, brain, and body. Because of this deep biological impact, trauma can show up in countless, deeply complex ways. The human psyche possesses a million brilliant ways to survive during and after overwhelming events, and we view your current symptoms not as a list of defects, but as necessary, creative survival armor.
Our approach is deeply relational, non-pathologizing, and guided by three core pillars:
Autonomy Over Labels: Trauma frequently mimics or co-occurs with other conditions. Many of our clients arrive having received a rotating door of previous diagnoses—such as BPD, Bipolar Disorder, or generalized anxiety—or may be discovering how unaddressed neurodivergence has compounded their trauma. We place far less weight on rigid, historical labels and instead focus entirely on the reality of your lived experience. Our goal is to help you break free from chronic shame spirals by understanding why your system behaves the way it does, restoring your sense of internal authority.
Safety & Stabilization First: True trauma recovery cannot happen if your nervous system is constantly flooded or pushed into collapse. Because of this, we work strictly within a phased model of care. We focus on building somatic stability, tracking nervous system capacity, and anchoring practical grounding skills first. We will only begin processing direct, traumatic memories when you feel fully confident in your ability to manage your system successfully both within our sessions and in your day-to-day life between them. You are the driver; we move entirely at your pace.
Reclaiming Agency & Confidence: Trauma fundamentally strips away a person's power. Our ultimate goal is not just symptom management, but helping you reclaim total agency, confidence, and safety within your own skin. We work collaboratively to help your internal system move away from survival mode and toward long-term, cohesive stability.

Traditional family therapy frequently focuses on behavioral compliance or trying to get every family member to communicate, self-regulate, and behave in the exact same way. In our practice, Neurodivergent Family Therapy flips this script entirely. We focus on supporting families holding multiple, intersecting, or differing neurotypes (such as a mix of Autistic, ADHD, and neurotypical brains under one roof).
Rather than pathologizing one individual as the "problem," we look at the family as a unique ecosystem. We work collaboratively to map out everyone's sensory profiles, communication styles, and executive functioning capacities. Our goal is to dismantle the systemic friction, misunderstandings, and double-empathy gaps that happen when different brains collide. We help you build a customized family framework rooted in mutual accommodation, nervous system safety, and deep relational respect—where every member's unique neurology is honored.

Aging is a profound, sacred, and often deeply challenging journey of transition. Unfortunately, our broader culture frequently sidelines older adults or treats their mental health with systemic passivity or relative indifference. In our practice, we approach elder therapy with the immense dignity, nuance, and respect it deserves.
We recognize that this stage of life often brings a unique intersection of complex dynamics: navigating shifting family roles, confronting grief and loss, and adapting to changes in physical or cognitive capacity. We provide a deeply safe, unhurried space for elders who are looking back at their life's journey through a completely new lens—including those who are late-realizing or suspecting their own neurodivergence for the first time, as well as those finding that past traumas have become more intrusive or impactful as life's pacing changes. Our approach is never patronizing or clinical. Instead, we offer a collaborative space to honor your lived history, process existential transitions, break free from lifelong shame spirals, and anchor your sense of autonomy and purpose.
Telehealth Logistics & Accessibility
-
Our practice is 100% virtual, conducting all sessions via a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. This allows us to provide specialized care to individuals living anywhere across California.
The Physical Location Rule: Due to strict state licensing regulations, you must be physically located within the state of California at the exact time of your session. This rule applies regardless of whether your session is video or phone-only. If you are traveling out of state for vacation or work, we will need to temporarily pause or reschedule your sessions until you return across state lines.
-
Yes. Research shows that for trauma recovery and neurodivergent scaffolding, telehealth is just as effective as traditional in-person sessions—and often carries distinct advantages.
Attending therapy from your own environment allows your nervous system to remain regulated because you are in a space you already control. For neurodivergent individuals, it eliminates the sensory exhaustion of a commute or a sterile waiting room, leaving you with more cognitive energy to dedicate to your healing.
-
You do not need to be a technology expert to work with us. All sessions are held through a completely secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform integrated directly into your client portal.
Before your session, you will simply click a single link sent to your email or smartphone. As long as you have a private space where you feel safe speaking freely, a stable internet connection, and a device with a camera (laptop, tablet, or smartphone), you are ready to go.
-
Yes. While our default platform uses secure video, we also fully offer audio-only (phone) sessions for clients who prefer or require them.
We intentionally incorporate phone therapy as a supportive accessibility tool. For many older adults navigating new technology, individuals experiencing severe neurodivergent sensory or screen fatigue, or trauma survivors who feel hypervigilant or overly exposed on camera, a phone call can significantly lower the nervous system's defenses. Removing the visual pressure often allows for a deeper, safer, and more regulated therapeutic experience.
Important Legal Boundary: Just like video therapy, you must be physically present inside the state of California during the phone call. To maintain the highest legal and ethical standards required by California regulations, Emma will verbally verify and document your exact physical address at the start of every single phone session. If you are out of the state at the time of the call, we legally cannot conduct the session.

Privacy and a sense of absolute environmental safety are foundational to trauma recovery. If you live in a busy household, share a space, or are worried about being overheard, we can get creative.
Many of our clients successfully attend telehealth sessions from the privacy of their parked cars, a quiet backyard, a walk-in closet, or while wearing headphones to ensure family members or roommates cannot hear Emma's side of the conversation. If noise bleed is a concern, using a simple white-noise phone app outside your closed door can also create an immediate, effective sound barrier. We will work collaboratively to help you anchor a setup that feels secure to your system.
Fees, Insurance, & Policies
-
We believe in absolute financial transparency so you can make informed decisions about your care. Our standard fees across all individual and family therapy tracks are structured as follows:
Initial Consultation Call: 15 Minutes | $0 (Free)
Initial Clinical Intake Assessment: 75 Minutes | $300
Individual Therapy Session (Ages 10+): 55 Minutes | $225
Neurodivergent Family Therapy Session: 55 Minutes | $225
Please note: Payment is due at the time of your scheduled session. If you plan to use Out-of-Network benefits, we can utilize our Thrizer integration to help you access your insurance reimbursements seamlessly (see the details below).
-
Session frequency is a deeply collaborative clinical decision that we will make together during your initial consultation and intake process, and it is always open to evolution as your needs change.
Because we operate on an independent out-of-network and private pay model, your care is dictated entirely by what works for you—not by rigid corporate insurance panels or algorithms. Insurance companies frequently try to dictate how often you are "allowed" to seek support. In our practice, you have the total autonomy to choose a pacing (whether weekly, every other week, or a customized scaffold) that genuinely respects your budget, your nervous system's capacity, and your personal healing goals.
Clinical Boundaries on Intensity: Because we are a 100% virtual outpatient practice, we are structurally built for stable, ongoing therapy. If a client requires high-intensity treatment (such as meeting multiple times per week) or is experiencing significant acute risk that requires a higher level of daily or wrap-around clinical support, they are not an appropriate fit for our virtual outpatient structure. If our initial assessment or ongoing work indicates a need for this intensive level of stabilization, we will collaborate with you to provide external resources and referrals for specialized, higher levels of care that can safely meet your current needs.

We protect a dedicated, recurring hour specifically for you in our clinical schedule. Because that time is strictly reserved for your care and cannot easily be filled by another client on short notice, we require at least 24 hours' notice for all cancellations or reschedules.
How to Cancel: All cancellations or rescheduling requests must be made directly within your secure online scheduling portal, or submitted in writing via email or text message at least 24 hours prior to your appointment time.
Sessions cancelled, missed, or rescheduled with less than 24 hours' notice will be billed at your full standard session rate. This policy applies across all service tracks, including private pay, out-of-network, and Medicare cohort slots.
-
To keep our focus entirely on your clinical care rather than administrative tasks, our practice utilizes an automated, secure, and completely HIPAA-compliant billing system.
We collect a credit card, HSA, or FSA card during your initial onboarding paperwork to securely store on file. Your card is only charged after a session is completed, or in the event of a late cancellation or missed appointment. Storing your card on file ensures seamless billing, allows us to instantly run your Thrizer claims in the background, and eliminates the need to spend valuable session time processing payments.
-
If your commercial insurance plan includes out-of-network outpatient mental health benefits, our partnership with Thrizer eliminates the typical stress of insurance paperwork.
When we set up your billing in our secure client portal, Thrizer automatically verifies your out-of-network benefits and submits your claims directly to your insurance company on your behalf. Depending on your specific plan's coverage, Thrizer can often calculate and apply your reimbursement instantly. This means instead of forcing you to pay our full fee out-of-pocket and wait months for an insurance check, you may have the option to only pay your co-insurance responsibility at the time of your session, while Thrizer covers the rest and runs the claim in the background.
Check Your Benefits Instantly: Want to know what your insurance will cover before you even book a session? We have integrated an interactive Thrizer Cost Calculator Widget directly onto our Fees & Insurance Page. You can use it right now to securely run your insurance information and get an instant, transparent breakdown of your out-of-network benefits, deductibles, and expected co-insurance costs.

We are deeply dedicated to providing accessible care across the lifespan and intentionally maintain a specific number of slots for traditional Medicare beneficiaries.
Because these community cohort slots are limited in order to maintain a highly personalized, dedicated focus for every client we see, availability changes dynamically. If you are a Medicare recipient, please reach out to us directly via our phone, text, or contact form to check the current availability of our cohort openings.
Please note that we are only able to accept traditional Medicare, and we recommend verifying that your secondary or supplemental insurance coordinates with independent mental health practices before our initial call.

No. Single Case Agreements and Continuity of Care contracts are strictly reserved for existing, returning clients who are transitioning with Emma from her previous practice setting.
We are unable to initiate or negotiate new SCAs for incoming clients because doing so requires us to bend to corporate insurance rules that focus heavily on what is 'broken' or impaired about you, rather than how you are actually experiencing life. This kind of clinical intrusion compromises the deeply private, autonomous, and self-paced care we are committed to providing. To protect the integrity and pacing of your therapy, all new incoming clients enter our practice via our Out-of-Network/Private Pay structures or our dedicated Medicare slots.
